The first pressed Winnipeg Jets specialty licence plate can be yours ? if you?re lucky.
True North Sports and Entertainment and the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation announced Thursday that tickets will be sold in a raffle lottery for the plate #WJ0001, the first of 27,000 Jets plates pressed in December 2011.
The True North Foundation will sell 15,004 tickets ? one for every seat in MTS Centre ? at a price of $20 apiece, with proceeds going to the foundation.
?With the expansion of our programs, we felt it was a good opportunity to let people know what we?re doing with the funds,? said True North Foundation executive director Dwayne Green.
The provincial government and Manitoba Public Insurance also presented a cheque for $809,580 to the True North Foundation on Thursday, the sum of proceeds from the sale of 27,000 specialty plates.
?We want the fans to know when they buy that licence plate that money goes into programming for young people to learn about recreation and sport and hockey in Manitoba,? Premier Greg Selinger said.
Green said he anticipates a lot of interest in the plate.
?We wanted to make it accessible to everybody and we think the process that we?ve developed will allow that for any fan across the province to proudly display it on their vehicles,? he said.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at Jets games, Jets Gear locations or by e-mail at kflett@truenorth.mb.ca.
